Fruit vendor dies in Minglanilla road accident

A FRUIT vendor who was driving a Suzuki multicab pick-up died in an accident in front of Tungkop Elementary School in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla town, southern Cebu at 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

The victim was identified as Nilo Alllanic Barbientos, 63, from Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City.

He was rushed to Minglanilla District Hospital, where he expired at 5 a.m. of the following day.

His companion, Alfredo Solon, 45, single, from Negros Oriental, was injured.

Police Captain Kalvin Jomari Golitod, chief of Miinglanilla Police Station, revealed that Barbientos and Solon were on their way home when the multicab’s left front tire suddenly burst.

As a result, Barbientos lost control of the steering wheel and

hit the traffic cones on the road until he crashed into the incoming Toyota High Ace van (AE6430) driven by Joel Inso Alulod, 41, single, from Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City.

Barbientos was trapped in front of the vehicle, and it took a few minutes for the rescue personnel to free him. (GPL, TPT)
