A 21-YEAR-OLD girl was stabbed and her cellphone was stolen by the suspect whom she was able to identify in Barangay Magdugo, Toledo City at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Jolina Lawog-Lawog Trays, single and a working student from Guinkamote, Barangay Captain Claudio, Toledo City, was able to identify the suspect, Kenneth Purisima, 31, single, of Barangay Magdugo, when his shirt that covered his face fell.

Trays' neighbors and the police chased the suspect but failed to catch him, who hurriedly left after being recognized by the victim.

Senior Master Sergeant Marciano Suarez Jr., investigator of Toledo Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that the victim was sleeping when she awoke upon noticing that somebody was opening the door.

She arose to check but was instead stabbed by the suspect several times in the body.

The victim fought back but during their scuffle, the suspect managed to grab her cellphone worth around P8,000 and flee.

It was learned that the suspect sneaked into the house through the window hole at the stock room designated for an airconditioner.

"Nagtuo mi nga posibling ang suspek manglugos unta sa biktima, pero nakamata man, maong gitulis na lang niya," said Suarez.

(We believe that the suspect was planning to rape the victim, but instead robbed her when she woke up).

The victim was brought to the hospital for treatment. She was already declared out of danger.

The suspect will be facing frustrated murder charges. (GPL, TPT)
