RESIDENTS in some barangays in Toledo City, southwest of Cebu, had to rush for cover after a hailstorm occurred there Wednesday afternoon, July 3, 2019.

A video, published by netizen Madznill Marata on Facebook, captured the hailstorm, which occurred in her village, Barangay Lutopan, around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The video went viral on social media.

Aside from Barangay Lutopan, a hailstorm was also experienced in Barangay Cambang-ug and Sam-ang.

In an interview, an official of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas said hailstorms were likely to occur in Toledo after they issued an "ugly thunderstorm advisory" in the area Wednesday.

Engr. Al Quiblat, acting Pagasa Visayas chief, said this was not the first time that a hailstorm hit Cebu.

The municipality of Pinamungajan, a town next to Toledo, was also hit by a hailstorm in 2012 and 2013. (HBL)
