THE House Committee on Transportation has approved the legalization of habal-habal on Friday, January 25, 2018.

Rep. Raul del Mar (Cebu City north district) confirmed that the Committee on Transportation has approved in principle the legalization of habal-habal/ Angkas operations.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña announced the development on his Facebook page.

"'Legalization of habal-habal / Angkas approved in principle by the House Committee on Transportation.

This is a big step forward' Great news from Congressman Raul Del Mar," wrote Osmeña.

Del Mar filed House Bill (HB) 6909 last Dec. 13, 2017 yet, seeking to give powers to local government units to regulate the motorcycles-for-hire.

Last December, a year after del Mar’s bill was filed, the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against a Mandaluyong City court ruling that prevented authorities from intervening in the motorcycle ride-hailing firm’s operations. (With/PAC)
