THE husband of a policewoman was busted for P1,000 worth of what police say was shabu in Poblacion, Argao town on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019.

Edgar Rufo, 44, from Poblacion, Argao, was reported to the town police by his neighbors as being back selling drugs, according to Argao Police Chief P/Maj. Ildelfonso Miranda.

Miranda said Rufo had been arrested before but was able to avail himself of a plea bargaining agreement.

He had been detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center on drug charges.

Miranda had received information that Rufo was back selling drugs in the town.

The town police chief himself led the buy-bust at 5:10 p.m. on Dec. 12.

Miranda said that Rufo’s wife, a police corporal assigned to a special unit at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7, cannot be linked to her husband’s illegal activity because she herself did not condone it.

Miranda said the policewoman, who is now estranged from Rufo, had reported to the police about her husband’s illegal activities, which had become the source of conflict between the couple.

Separately, Police Col. Giovanie Maines, PRO 7 director for operations, said they will not file administrative cases against Rufo’s wife.

If Rufo and his wife were still living together and she was aware of her husband’s illegal activities, she could be facing administrative charges, Maines added.

“We can’t connect her to her husband’s wrongdoings. It needs evidence to connect a policewoman,” Maines added.

Charges of violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Rufo, police said. (AYB / MPS)
