Law allowing license seizure approved

Sunnexdesk

A MEASURE authorizing traffic enforcers to confiscate the driver’s license of erring motorists to promote road discipline was approved last week by the Cebu City Council.

In a 9-6 vote, the ordinance of Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr. filed in 2016 was passed despite opposition from the minority bloc.

Under the approved legislation, enforcers under the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) and other deputized agents of the City Government will be granted authority to confiscate the license of drivers found violating Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

With this, traffic enforcers and/or deputized agents can now also issue a citation ticket, and a receipt that will serve as the driver’s temporary license for five days.

In the apprehension, the enforcer or deputized agent should also demand to see the vehicle’s registration. RTF
