ALL departing passengers for both domestic and international flights to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) will be transferred to its Terminal 2 (T2) starting Sunday, January 16, 2022, to facilitate repairs in some of the airport’s structures that were damaged by Typhoon Odette.

The announcement was made by officials of Megawide’s airport subsidiary, GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC), in a statement they sent on Saturday, January 8.

In their statement, GMCAC officials said they decided to transfer all departures to T2 as repairs were needed at Terminal 1 after some of its structures were affected by the typhoon.

“The damage to Terminal 1 (T1) has been far more extensive especially at T1 departure areas which requires an immediate rectification program which will last several months,” GMCAC said.

But as domestic departures will be transferred to T2, domestic arrivals will continue to arrive at T1’s South Wing Arrivals as the area suffered less damage compared to other sections.

Domestic arriving passengers can still access their baggage at T1’s Baggage Reclaim Hall from T2 through a connecting airside link bridge or be transported by bus, depending on their designated aircraft parking bay and proximity to the area.

GMCAC added that the Airport Village will remain operational with selected shops open for the benefit of meeters and greeters.

As to international arrivals, they will also continue to arrive at T2 Arrivals in order to remain fully compliant with the arrival health protocols set by the national government and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectuos Diseases. (PR)
