MCWD to fix leaking cables

Sunnexdesk

SOME consumers of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) will celebrate the eve of day of the dead without water connection.

There will be a 10-hour interruption of water supply in the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu, the town of Consolacion and some parts of Cebu City from 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The MCWD said there are leaks in the main cable in Butuanon Bridge that need to be fixed.

The affected areas in Cebu City include lower Mabolo, M.J. Cuenco Ave., North Reclamation area, Pier area, Carreta, Lorega-San Miguel, Tejero, T. Padilla and part of Imus Ave.

Residents in these areas are advised to stock on water before the start of the interruption.

To give way to the repair works, some streets will be closed. These are J. Rizal St. corner UN Ave. in Mandaue City (in front of Pacific Mall) from 10 p.m. on Oct. 31, until 5 a.m. on Nov. 1.

The right-turn lane of the Butuanon Bridge will also be closed.

Residents in the affected areas have been complaining of poor or lack of water supply since last September, MCWD said.

The main cable on Butuanon Bridge has two leaks.

The MCWD has secured a permit from the Department of Public Works and Highways 7 and the Mandaue City Government regarding the road closures.

The MCWD has until Nov. 12 to restore its diggings on the roads.

The repair works were scheduled on the holidays since the demand for water is low. (HBL of SuperBalita)
