TO CELEBRATE Global Handwashing Day, the Metropolitan Cebu Water (MCWD) and its project partner Vitens Evides International (VEI) held a handwashing activity in Tisa Elementary School in Cebu City on Oct. 15, 2019.

More than 100 pupils participated in the handwashing activity. They were taught of the proper way of washing hands to ensure personal hygiene, sanitation and water conservation.

MCWD Public Information Division manager Edna Inocando and VEI project manager Patrick Egan attended the event.

The 2019 Global Handwashing Day theme was “Clean Hands for All.” MCWD and VEI campaigned that no one should be left behind in the access to handwashing facilities and effective handwashing promotion program.

MCWD and VEI are partners in a five-year pro-poor water supply project called WatSup Cebu, which aims to help 80,000 people to gain access to safe, potable and affordable water supply in Metro Cebu.

This project helps MCWD expand its water system to unserved areas and Barangay Tisa is one of the beneficiary-barangays in Cebu City.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
