Moalboal: From tourist to empty town

Sunnexdesk

LIKE the rest of Cebu Province, residents of Moalboal woke to a new reality on March 30, 2020, on Day 1 of the implementation of the enhanced quarantine by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

With public transportation suspended, the streets were almost empty, while the once bustling public market had more closed stalls than open ones.

Once crowded with tricycles and motorcycles-for-hire ferrying tourists, the walkways and alleys were clear, with only a few quarantine-card carrying residents passing.

On the other hand, both the fish and meat sections of the wet market had very few customers, while one of two major grocery stores that are open had less than 10 customers as of 9:30 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2020. (Mike T. Limpag)
