Moalboal gets evacuation center building

Sunnexdesk

THE Municipality of Moalboal is now better prepared for disasters after the completion of a new evacuation center building in Barangay Bugho last month.

The Department of Public Works and Highways Central Visayas formally turned over the new building to Mayor Paz “Ling Ling” Abenedo Rozgoni on Oct. 21, 2021, the town announced on its Facebook page.

Quirante Construction, project contractor, built the evacuation center on a municipal lot.

The southwestern Cebu town has been threatened by storms in the past.

Tropical storm Seniang in December 2014 claimed at least one life in the town.

The town also faced a storm surge warning of at least half a meter as Tropical depression Domeng approached in April 2014.

As the eighth anniversary of the destructive super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) looms, another town has also sought to better brace itself from disasters.

Last September, the typhoon-prone Daanbantayan in northern Cebu broke ground for the construction of its first ever permanent evacuation center.

The P38 million and 3,000-square-meter Daanbantayan Evacuation Center will rise in Barangay Pajo. (CTL)
