A MOTORCYCLE rider died, while his backrider got injured after they collided with a Ceres bus in Sibonga town, southern Cebu at 6:05 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2022.

Alfonso Canoy, a construction worker and driver of the motorcycle, and his backrider Josielo Masillones, 27, both from Balamban town, were brought to the hospital in Carcar City, but Canoy died along the way due to severe wounds in the head and body.

Police Major Rodgene Fudotan, chief of Sibonga Police Station, said in an interview with SunStar Cebu that Canoy was traveling toward south when he collided head on with the Cebu City-bound Ceres bus driven by Jimuel Cayudi Saldasa, 40, from Barangay Tisa, Cebu City.

Saldasa surrendered to the police after the incident.

It was learned that Canoy encroached the opposite lane while maneuvering a curve in Barangay Poblacion, Sibonga and crashed into the incoming Ceres bus.

"Na-overshot ang motorsiklo wapa makabawi sa manobela ang driver mao nga mipilit sa wala nga bahin sa atubangan sa bus," Fudotan said.

(The motorcycle overshot and the driver lost control of his bike's handlebars, hitting the left front portion of the bus).

Fudotan described the area where the collision occurred as prone to accident. (GPL, TPT)
