Nearly 100 Cebu City cops undergo surprise drug test

NEARLY 100 police personnel assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit of 11 police stations in Cebu City were summoned to a meeting before they were subjected to a surprise drug test.

Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, head of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), briefed his men before the drug test and warned them that he does not want to hear about their involvement in illegal drug activities again.

Dalogdog said that during the most recent test at the CCPO headquarters, two police officers tested positive for drugs.

"We already have personnel who tested positive in our last surprise drug test, so now they are facing an administrative case," Dalogdog stated.

He did not, however, identify the officers in question, but he did guarantee that the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) had already begun the dismissal proceedings against them.

The surprise drug test is part of the internal cleansing program of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to get rid of scalawag policemen.

Dalogdog echoed PRO 7 Director Brigadier General Anthony Aberin's remarks that police officers who take drugs should be sacked and that they have no place in the PNP organization. (AYB, TPT)
