AFTER the completion of Terminal 2 in the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Bohol is also set to have its own international airport.

Engr. Edgardo Mangalili, project manager of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), said that starting in August, operations in the airport in Tagbilaran City will be transferred to the new Bohol-Panglao International Airport in the Panglao resort town.

“In Tagbilaran, we have one international flight and 22 domestics, and whatever operation we have there will be transferred to the new airport,” he said.

Compared to the old airport, the new airport is bigger and sits on a 223-hectare land, of which around 14,000 square meters was set aside for the terminal.

It is located in Barangays Tawala and Danao in Panglao.

Mangalili said the construction of the airport designed by Japan Airport Consultants started in June 2015. It has a capacity of 3.4 million passengers every year and can accommodate seven aircraft at a time.

Members of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 checked on the progress of the construction last Friday. This, after RDC 7 endorsed the additional works for the new airport during their second full council meeting for this year. (RVC)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
