THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Mactan urged the public to be vigilant against the effects of the extension "hinungaw" caused by a low pressure area (LPA) east of Eastern Samar that may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga Region in the next 24 hours.

Jomar Eclarino, Pagasa-Mactan weather specialist, said the LPA entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Sunday, August 8, but remains less likely to develop into a tropical depression within 12 to 24 hours.

Eclarino said the extension of LPA will continue to bring occasional heavy rains and thunderstorms in the areas within Monday and Tuesday, August 10.

He advised the public to continue monitoring weather updates especially those in flash floods- and landslide-prone and other vulnerable areas.

As of 10:58 a.m. Monday, August 9, Pagasa-Mactan issued a thunderstorm advisory, with moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds expected over Cebu Province (Barili, Sibonga, Boljoon) and nearby areas within one to two hours.

The above conditions are being experienced in Cebu (Minglanilla, Carcar City) and may persist within one to two hours. It may affect nearby areas, Pagasa said. (MVE)
