Pagasa Visayas: Expect rain in Cebu Friday

Sunnexdesk

THE state weather bureau has advised the public to bring umbrellas as sporadic downpours are expected in Cebu on Friday, March 6, 2020.

The residents in other provinces in Central and Eastern Visayas will be experiencing cloudy skies and thunderstorms Friday, said Alfredo Quiblat Jr., officer in charge of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas.

Warning

Quiblat said the residents in low-lying areas must be careful as they could experience flooding. Landslides, he said, might also occur in upland barangays and villagers living near mountain slopes must be alert at all times.

The ugly weather conditions expected on Friday were attributed by Quiblat to the low pressure area (LPA) off eastern Mindanao.

As of 12 p.m. Thursday, March 5, Quiblat said the LPA was seen 300 kilometers east-southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Small chance

The LPA, however, has a small chance of developing into a tropical depression, said Quiblat.

The Pagasa Visayas official further said the LPA had a chance to cross Mindanao and its troughs could affect Visayas. Troughs often bring clouds, rainshowers and a wind shift.

“It has been raining in Eastern Visayas right now. In Cebu, rain might fall tonight and there might be occasional heavy rains tomorrow,” Quiblat said in a phone interview on Thursday morning.

The Pagasa Visayas is expecting a good weather condition with isolated rainshowers and light to moderate wind from Saturday to Sunday, March 7-8.

Quiblat said the temperature on Saturday will hover around 25-31 degrees Celsius.

The temperature is expected to rise to 32 degrees Celsius on Sunday. (WBS)
