THE low pressure area (LPA) detected by the state weather bureau has no chance of becoming a typhoon.

However, the weather system is expected to bring rain in most parts of Cebu and Central Visayas, said Al Quiblat, acting Visayas bureau chief of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

On Wednesday morning, Feb. 5, 2020, rain fell in Metro Cebu, but it did not cause heavy flooding as it did not last long.

Quiblat said Central Visayas will start to feel the effects of the LPA Wednesday night. It was detected 1,015 kilometers east of Davao City in Mindanao.

A slow to moderate scattered rainshower and thunderstorm will occur in Cebu and other provinces in the region, said Quiblat.

The latest Pagasa forecast states that the LPA will not last long, and Visayas and Mindanao are set to experience good weather from Friday, Feb. 7, until Sunday, Feb. 9.

The chilly temperature felt at night was foreseen to end by the third or fourth week of February.

In the first week of March, the Pagasa predicts the entry of humid weather. (JCT / KAL)
