Passenger bus hits pedestrian, SUV in Compostela

A PASSENGER bus hit a pedestrian and then slammed into a sports utility vehicle (SUV) along the national road in Sitio Lutao, Barangay Estaca, Compostela town, northern Cebu at 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

The victim was identified as Bernadeth Borja Atis, of Barangay Jubay, Liloan town.

Based on the investigation by Compostela police, Atis was crossing the road when she was hit by the Ceres bus bound for Cebu City.

After hitting Atis, the bus, driven by Ruben Lumbab Catipan, 42, also slammed into the sports utility vehicle.

The wounded Atis was brought to the Danao Provincial Hospital for treatment.

This is the second incident involving a Ceres bus within a week.

On Wednesday at 7:10 p.m., June 15, two motorcycle-riding men also died after they were hit by the Ceres bus at a national road in Barangay Dunggoan, Danao City.

The police blamed the bus driver for encroaching on the lane of the motorcycle, causing the collision. (TPT)
