LOCAL police have identified one of the two men who robbed a 52-year-old taxi driver in San Fernando town, Cebu.

San Fernando police investigator Mario Paul Pino identified the suspect as Alex Rematado, a resident of Carcar City.

Pino said Rematado and the suspect’s still unidentified companion robbed and wounded taxi driver Andres Alfanta in Barangay Pitalo on April 12, 2022.

Rematado was identified by Alfanta after police had presented the suspect’s picture to him while he was still recuperating at the Cebu South Medical Center in Talisay City.

Alfanta told police that it was Rematado who was sitting on the passenger’s seat when the suspect and his companion robbed him. Rematado was armed with a pistol, the driver added.

Alfanta also told the police that Rematado’s companion was the one who slit his tongue.

The culprits took Alfanta’s earnings amounting to P1,000, not P4,200 as initially reported.

Pino said Rematado had a criminal record and he had been involved in a series of robberies in southern Cebu. Rematado also has a pending arrest warrant for a robbery case.

Pino said they have launched a manhunt against Rematado. (GPL / JKV)
