Police to crack down on illegal firework vendors

UNLICENSED firecracker vendors in Lapu-Lapu City will be arrested.

Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Director Lemuel Obon said vendors should secure a permit from the City Hall before they can sell in designated firecracker zones in Barangays Babag and Canjulao.

The selling of firecrackers in malls is not allowed, he added.

“Firecrackers are easy to find because they are bigger than shabu. We can easily seize small sachets of shabu, so there’s no reason we cannot confiscate firecrackers. So, do not hide because we will find you and arrest you,” he said in Cebuano.

Mayor Paz Radaza also urged firecracker vendors to get permits and to follow the regulations set by the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Last Dec. 16, licensed vendors started opening their stalls in Babag and Canjulao.

Obon had inspected the stalls and noticed no violations.

The vendors, he said, placed signs reminding customers that testing and smoking in the area are not allowed. Each stall also has a plastic container full of water, which will be used in case of fire. (from GCM of SuperBalita Cebu/KAL)
