Police upbeat on ‘continuing success’ vs. illegal drugs

TWO police officials are upbeat about the continuing campaign against illegal drugs, as President Rodrigo Duterte heads into his third year in office.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas said he considered the second year of the presidency a success, as far as going after illegal drugs is concerned. He believes there was a transformation in the Philippine National Police under Duterte as officers involved in illegal activities, including drug trafficking, are being investigated and charged.

Cebu City Police Office Director Senior Supt. Royina Garma said that President Duterte is supporting the police to motivate them to work harder in maintaining peace and order.

“He is doing his best to equip us,” she said.

Last Wednesday, PRO 7 and its lower offices conducted anti-criminality operations that led to the deaths of six persons, who allegedly resisted arrest. Operatives seized P13 million worth of illegal drugs.

“It will not be done overnight. It will take time,” she said. “Kita na man natin may drugs pa despite sa kanyang campaign na intensified. Daghan pa gihapon ang di moundang sa droga (Drugs remain despite an intensified campaign. Many still don’t want to give it up),” Garma said. (KAL)
