VOTERS should avoid the heat on election day.

The elderly, persons with disability and other voters may expect a dry and hot election day this Monday, May 13.

The weather bureau said the maximum temperature on Monday will reach 36 degrees Celsius.

The heat index, or the level of discomfort an average person can expect, might reach 44 degrees Celsius.

Al Quiblat, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas chief, said voters could expect the heat index to reach even 47 degrees Celsius, if they are in a crowded place.

Quiblat said the extreme heat can be felt from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Voters should hydrate themselves and wear light-colored shirts.

Last Friday noon, May 10, a low pressure area (LPA) 360 kilometers east of Mindanao was expected to bring scattered rainshowers in Cebu and other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao. The LPA entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility last Thursday afternoon, May 9.

According to Quiblat, Cebu will have rainy weather on Saturday, May 11. But the LPA has little chance of transforming into a tropical depression and may dissipate in the next 24 hours.

Quiblat said voters should also bring umbrellas to protect themselves from the heat in the morning and the expected thunderstorms in the afternoon. (from FMD of SuperBalita Cebu/KAL)
