Rama eyes SFI chairmanship

CEBU City Vice Mayor Michael Rama is considering getting back the chairmanship of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI).

His announcement came after Mayor Edgardo Labella declared that he wants Rama to take charge of the Sinulog 2021 activities.

Rama said he has communicated with SFI executive director Elmer “Jojo” Labella and SFI president and chairman Pericles Dakay for his reinstallation as the SFI chairman.

The vice mayor resigned as SFI chairman on Oct. 29, 2019, two months after Labella created the Sinulog Governing Board (SGB).

Labella created the SGB in August 2019 to oversee the Sinulog 2020 activities. Rama opposed the creation of the SGB, saying the new group might affect SFI’s autonomy.

After he left his post, Rama was not booted out of the SFI Board of Trustees.

When asked about his plans for Sinulog 2021, Rama said he has to meet and discuss these with the stakeholders first.

The staging of physical Sinulog festivities in 2021 hangs in the balance because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) global health crisis.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected SFI’s operations. Elmer, the mayor’s younger brother, said they have yet to finish following up on their collectibles.
