THE Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 recently honored Cebuano historian and writer Resil B. Mojares, who was named National Artist for Literature for 2018.

The RDC 7 awarded Mojares with a plaque during the third RDC full council meeting.

Inscribed on the plaque, which was made and designed by the Fabrication Laboratory of the University of the Philippines Cebu, is the resolution passed by the RDC 7 recognizing Mojares and the message that urges for the promotion of his works.

In response, Mojares thanked the RDC 7 for the recognition and lauded the council for leading the way in promoting culture, the arts and design in Central Visayas through the RDC’s Special Committee for Culture, Arts and Design (SC-CAD).

“This is a pleasant surprise because I have always associated the RDC with hard-core interest in development, not into culture and arts, the soft side,” he said.

He assured that he is very willing to help in promoting culture and the arts through the advocacy of the SC-CAD.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts conferred on Mojares the National Artist for Literature for 2018—the highest national recognition given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts. (S)
