REP. RAUL DEL MAR (Cebu City, north district) hopes that the domestic terminal at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) will also undergo a renovation that will match passenger Terminal 2 (T2).

Del Mar and his daughter, former congresswoman Rachel “Cutie” del Mar, joined Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority General Manager Steve Dicdican and GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC) Chief Executive Adviser Andrew Harrison in inspecting T2 last May 10.

The terminal will be inaugurated on June 7.

“It will be a delight to our domestic travelers to be able to also experience the same standards as those of T2. Cebuanos and all Filipinos will undoubtedly be filled with pride for this is an outstanding accomplishment,” del Mar said.

Del Mar, in a press statement, said the new facility will give Cebu’s visitors a “good and lasting impression.”

“(It’s) very functional, classy and easily comparable to the best terminals in Asia, I might even add, around the world,” he said Cutie del Mar, too, wrote on social media about her experience during the inspection.

“I have never been excited for an airport. The wide open spaces and the very modern arrival area will be a welcome change. The restrooms alone speaks volume of any place. As for the passengers leaving, it will be convenient that you won’t need to carry your suitcase into the x-ray machines. You go to the check-in counter, which is 60 meters apart from the next one, then the bags go through the x-ray,” she said.

It was in November 2014 when GMCAC took over the operations of the MCIA under a public-private-parternship scheme.

Construction of T2 started in the first half of 2015.

After T2’s completion, renovation of the Terminal 1 is expected to commence and is slated for completion by June 2019. (RTF)
