Synchronized truck ban ‘to ease’ metro traffic

Sunnexdesk

THE Provincial Board (PB) has urged local government units (LGUs), especially the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Talisay, to amend their ordinance on the truck ban and synchronize its schedule.

It hopes this will help address traffic congestion in Metro Cebu.

The PB has received numerous complaints from the public regarding the worsening traffic situation that has affected workers and students during weekdays. Many of them complained that they had been forced to leave their homes earlier to avoid being late.

They said trucks and trailers contribute to the problem, especially when these break down on the road or figure in accidents.

PB Member Francis Edward Salimbangon, who authored the resolution, has provided schedules for the truck ban that LGUs can follow if his measure is approved.

He pointed out that traffic is heaviest in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Talisay.

Salimbangon’s proposal is for the cities of Cebu and Mandaue to impose a truck ban from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday, except on Sunday and public holidays.

He proposed the same for Talisay City except it shouldn’t have a truck ban on weekends and public holidays. (from ANV of Superbalita/PJB)
