Talisay to have its own Swat team

TALISAY City will soon have its own Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team.

This was made possible after Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas signed a memorandum of understanding with officials of the Cebu Provincial Police Office led by its director, Col. Rommel Echave, on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022.

As of their agreement, Gullas said the City will shell out P3 million to fund the training of 20 police officers assigned in Talisay City who will serve as the pioneering Swat team members.

Gullas said the formation of a Swat team is a great help in enforcing peace and order in the city.

The mayor said that although the training requires a big amount of money, he believes the cost will go back to the government by means of taxes because more traders will invest in the city once the peace and order situation improves.

Gullas said that after the training, their next move for next year will be to allocate a supplemental budget for the purchase of Swat equipment.

In a separate interview, Ochave said they plan to put three Swat teams in Talisay City to further improve the city’s peace and order situation, especially now that businesses are back in operation.

“That’s why our plans are to capacitate our police force,” he said.

Meanwhile, the city government and a Talisay-based businessman turned over five motorcycles to the local police. (BBT / TPT)
