City Council approves release of P5-M for Casuntigan fire victims

THE Mandaue City Council has approved the release P5 million for fire victims at Barangay Casuntingan last Nov. 14, 2019.

The fire destroyed close to the 1,200 square meters of residential area and displaced 83 homeowners and 501 renters.

During its regular session, Mandaue City Vice- Mayor Glenn Bercede said that the 83 homeowners will receive P10,000 per family while the 501 renters and a partially burned house will receive P5,000 per family, a total of P2.5 million.

The council also allocated P1.5 million for hot meals for the victims and P100,750 for miscellaneous acquisitions.

“We have not yet set the schedule of the distribution of the financial assistance to the fire victims,” said Bercede, in Cebuano.

He also clarified that the donations from the different agencies particularly private sectors are not included in the P5 million.

The distribution of the financial assistance was moved as Bercede was awaiting the submission of the final disaster report of the fire by City Social Welfare and Services head Maricel Yu. (SunStar Cebu)
