BUILDING a world-class tourism destination in Talisay City, Cebu was one of Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr.’s dream projects for his administration.

Nearly seven months after assuming office, the neophyte mayor’s visits to the offices of some senators for funding requests will soon bear fruit.

Construction works for the first phase of the proposed tourism hub in Barangay Poblacion are set to start next month.

The development was confirmed by Councilor Rodulfo Cabigas, who heads the committee on infrastructure.

He said the funds for the project, which would cost more or less P100 million, are ready and they are just waiting for the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Phase 1 includes the construction of a food court, improvements of the existing plaza and a boardwalk that would lead to the Liberation Park.

Cabigas said there were some senators who donated funds to help the City Government realize its proposed tourism haven.

Earlier, Gullas said he wants to develop Poblacion since it is located at the heart of the city.

The tourism hub is not only expected to bring in visitors, but also promote Talisay’s products and open livelihood opportunities for its people.

The City Government assured that no one will be displaced by the project. (FMD, RTF)
