Traffic congestion expected due to malfunctioning traffic light system

SOME motorists have experienced traffic congestion in some areas of Cebu City on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, after the digital board of the city's synchronized traffic system malfunctioned.

Ronie Nadera, Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) spokesperson, confirmed that at 7 a.m. today, a CCTO staff noticed that there was a problem in the synchronization of the traffic lights.

He said a spare part of the digital board which have been used for already a long time now was damaged.

Areas in the city that were affected are the following: Gorordo-Escario, M.J Cuenco- J. Luna, V. Rama-B. Rodriguez, Legaspi- V. Gullas, M.J Cuenco-T. Padilla, P. Lopez-Borromeo, J. Luna- A. Soriano, Katipunan- Salvador, Colon-Mabini, Osmeña Blvd.- R. Landon, Leon Kilat - Magallanes, Gorordo- CardinaL Rosales, Arch. Reyes- Gorordo, and Osmeña Blvd. - D. Jakosalem.

The CCTO is asking the motorists for their consideration and understanding as they are currently fixing the problem.

Nadera said they are targeting to fix the digital board before the peak hours today to avoid causing heavy traffic congestion.

The CCTO has been using the 30-year old Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS). (JJL)
