THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) issued 18,007 citation tickets to traffic violators for September alone.

The traffic violations started piling up just after the city was placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) on Sept. 1, 2020, CCTO chief Alma Barandog-Casimero said.

Casimero said most of the violators were due to illegal parking and overnight parking in places not designated as parking areas.

Aside from issuing citation tickets, the CCTO also impounded 646 vehicles, majority of which were trucks, within the entire month.

The city also clamped 568 vehicles.

Minor traffic violations cost about P500 to P1,000 while motorists whose vehicles were either towed or clamped need to pay P1,500 to have them released from the CCTO custody.

Casimero said the volume of violators increased due to their non-stop daily operations, which included checking the delivery permits from trucking firms and others involved in delivery services.

With the city still under MGCQ for the entire month of October, Casimero said team will remain in full force on the streets to manage the traffic as more vehicles are expected to hit the road now that quarantine restrictions have been relaxed. (PAC / JKV)
