Tropical depression ‘Lannie’ places Cebu under signal no. 1

CEBU is one of the areas in the Visayas placed under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 1 due to Tropical Depression “Lannie,” reported the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its 8 a.m. weather bulletin published on Monday, October 4, 2021.

Pagasa said that Lannie is now over the Surigao Strait and about to make landfall in the vicinity of Southern Leyte. Under TCWS No. 1, strong winds prevailing or expected within 36 hours.

Lannie’s intensity is characterized by maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h and a central pressure of 1002 hPa. It is now moving west-northwestward at 15 km/h.

“Under these conditions, scattered flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps,” Pagasa said. (REV)
