‘Value accuracy’

THE digital media is a fast-paced world.

However, this does not mean a media outfit has to publish a story online without verifying its truthfulness.

This was among the topics discussed during the 27th Cebu Press Freedom Week (CPFW) learning session “Digital Transformations: Changes and Chances” organized by Cebu Daily News (CDN) Digital on Friday afternoon, September 20, 2019. SunStar leads this year’s CPFW.

CDN Digital managing editor Cris Evert Lato-Ruffolo said her organization always make it sure to value accuracy more than speed.

CDN, an affiliate of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, published its final print edition on Dec. 31, 2018 and went fully digital, after operating for 20 years since February 1998.

Ruffolo shared the evolution of CDN from the day its maiden issue was released in 1998 until the day it embraced the digital world in late 2018.

She presented a video of a CDN jingle in 2006, saying the video shows that CDN had already took initiative in utilizing the use of the internet in delivering its news.

Another speaker said that the digital media is no country for the fainthearted.

“Digital transformation is not for the faint of heart. Digital transformation is expensive but it will be the gift that keeps on giving for your company,” said Vida Tan Lacano, head of sales and marketing of Inquirer.net.

The other speakers in the forum were Danilo Antonio Wieneke, chief technical officer of CMB Film Services; Onat Roldan, AdSpark chief executive officer; and Mitchel Cloyd Masaudling, head of Globe’s strategy lead for corporate communications.

The forum was participated by communication students from different schools in Cebu. (KFD)
