Vatican to deliberate Camomot’s ‘positio’

THE Archdiocese of Cebu has announced that a meeting of theologians will be held in Rome to discuss the “positio” or the dissertation on the life and works of the late Archbishop Teofilo Camomot.

The Archdiocese announced this through a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Monday, November 8, 2021.

In September of this year, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma went to Vatican City to meet with officials of the Congregation of the Causes of Saints concerning the positio that the Archdiocese submitted to them.

Should the panel of theologians approve and the Holy Father, Pope Francis, give the title “Venerable,” Fr. Mhar Balili said they would need to show proof of a second miracle that can be attributed to the late Archbishop for him to be declared a saint, after he is declared Blessed.

Palma is also requesting all priests, religious and the faithful to pray for a positive response to Camomot’s positio.

Camomot, who hailed from Cogon in Carcar City, was known for his good works. But those who worked closely with him also spoke of his acts normally associated with saints, like levitation and bilocation.

Camomot died in a vehicular accident in San Fernando, Cebu on September 27, 1988. (JKV)
