A TOTAL of 1,462 market vendors availed themselves of Lapu-Lapu City’s free Covid-19 test during the first two days of testing.

The swab testing for vendors, which began on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, will last three days.

Grace Mary Carungay, Lapu-Lapu City epidemiological surveillance unit officer, said around 762 vendors availed themselves of the city’s free testing on Monday while around 700 on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The testing was conducted at the Hoopsdome in Barangay Gun-ob.

Carungay said they are targeting to test around 2,500 market vendors.

Vendors who are found negative in the Covid-19 test will be given a certificate from the city attesting that they are Covid-19 free.

Those who are found positive are required to undergo isolation and treatment.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan said that after they test the vendors, employees of the City Traffic Management System (CTMS) will be tested next.

Chan said he ordered the testing of vendors for Covid-19 as an assurance to their customers that they cannot infect them while they do business.

“This also assures that the vendors are healthy and are safe to interact with their families after exposing themselves to different people during their daily work,” Chan added, in Cebuano. (GCM / JKV)
