Village chief in Toledo, his bodyguard nabbed

A VILLAGE chair of Juan Climaco Sr., formerly Barangay Magdugo, in Toledo City, midwest Cebu, was arrested in his house along with his bodyguard at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Provincial Field Unit, together with the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and Toledo City Police Station, served the arrest warrant issued by Judge Ruben Altubar of Regional Trial Court Branch 9 based in Toledo against Juan Climaco Sr. barangay captain Walter Ng Lao, 48, for the crime of grave threats, which is bailable by P360,000.

The police also arrested Lao's bodyguard, Jess del Valle Esguera, 47, a resident of the same village, after they noticed that a .45 pistol with six live ammunition was tucked in his waist.

The operation was in line with the police's "Oplan Pagtugis" and "Oplan Paglalansag Omega" campaign against private armed groups and loose firearms. (AYB, TPT)
