Waterfront Hotel undergoes advanced firefighting training

Sunnexdesk

THE Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino participated in an advanced firefighting training program conducted by the University of Cebu Maritime Education and Training Center (UC-METC) last May 3 and 4.

The establishment was the first hotel to undergo such a program as the university’s regular participants are from industrial companies and volunteer fire brigade.

The program, which was specifically designed by the UC-METC, aims to explain the theory and elements of fire and identify and minimize the risk of fire accidents. It also intends to determine the use of breathing apparatus effectively, conduct search and rescue, as well as fight and extinguish the fire.

The highlights of the training program included entering a fire tunnel, combating open pit fire and extinguishing a closed quarter fire.

Capt. Michael H. Sarthou Jr., UC-METC training director, said that teamwork combined with the learned skills will enable responders to save lives.

Gene Lada, hotel’s safety and security manager, and Damaris Bacalso, peer’s training and development manager, said that the same training will also be held for the second batch sometime next month or in July.

Lada said that fire drills will also be done to test the effectiveness of the training programs.

Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, which is located on Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City, celebrated its 20th year in February this year.
