Ex-OFW murdered, robbed inside house

A 58-YEAR-OLD former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was found dead inside his house in Purok 1, Barangay Dapitan, Cordova at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12.

Police identified the victim as Jul Berdin Braga, a widower and a resident of the said barangay.

Chief Master Sergeant Danny Alburo of the Cordova Police told SunStar Cebu they are looking at the possibility that Braga may have been robbed just before he was murdered after some of his personal belongings, including expensive gadgets, were reportedly missing.

Alburo said they received a call from one of Braga's neighbors at around 9 a.m. concerning the foul smell that came from the victim's house.

When police found Braga's body, it was starting to decomposed.

Police found that an extension wire was found tied on Braga's neck, suggesting that the victim might have been strangled to death.

Police also found a knife and a large stone at the crime scene which may have been used to enter Braga's house.

“The suspect might have sneaked in into his house and rob his laptop and iPhone 7 since one of the windows is broken,” Alburo added.

One of the victim's neighbors told police that they noticed a commotion coming from Braga's house around 8 p.m. Monday, June 10.
