Woman from Mandaue gets P100,000 after turning 100

A WOMAN from Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City who was recognized by city officials after she recently turned 100 this year attributed her longevity to “eating vegetables and sleeping early.”

Eleuteria Porlas, fondly called “Inse Teria” by her family and friends, celebrated her 100th birthday on

April 18, 2022.

On Thursday, May 19, Mandaue City officials led by Mayor Jonas Cortes went to Porlas’ house to personally give the centenarian a cash incentive worth P100,000.

Porlas is the first recipient of the cash reward in the city this year.

With Cortes were City Councilor Cesar Cabahug, who chairs the committee on senior affairs; and former city councilor Diosdado Suico, who heads the city’s Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca).

The cash reward was in line with Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016, which grants cash gift of P100,000 to senior citizens who reached the age of 100.

Porlas’ daughter, Anecita Porlas-Oplado, told SunStar Cebu on Tuesday, May 24, that her mother’s effective secrets for living a long life are her habits of eating vegetables and sleeping early.

Oplado said her mother has never been fond of eating meat since her younger days.

Oplado said she and her family are thankful for the cash gift provided by the City, adding that they plan to use the money to buy her mother’s maintenance medicines and vitamins. Her mother fell ill with pneumonia in 2014.
