19 seasons and counting: Reavis re-signs with Magnolia

Jonas N. Panerio

VETERAN center Rafi Reavis has signed a new contract with the Magnolia Hotshots and will play in his 19th season in the PBA.

The 6-foot-8 big man, who was picked second overall by the defunct Coca-Cola Tigers in the 2002 PBA Rookie Draft, continues to be a key cog in the rotation of Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero. Also given new contracts were Kyle Pascual and Mon Abundo.

“I don’t know the details of the contract. I just handed the recommendation so we could complete our team,” said Victolero during his appearance on “The Chasedown.”

The 43-year-old was Magnolia’s starting center in the 2020 Philippine Cup and averaged 4.0 points and 6.45 rebounds in 28 minutes of action. With the recently acquired Calvin Abueva set to join the team, Magnolia is expected to trot out a veteran-laden frontcourt that features Ian Sangalang, Pascual and Jackson Corpuz.

The team is also waiting for another veteran, Marc Pingris, to make a decision regarding his playing career. The former Gilas Pilipinas stalwart has been hampered by injuries and continues to undergo rehab and therapy.

“The last time we talked, he said he continued to do his rehab and therapy so he could regain his strength,” said Victolero.
