4 Cebuanos make PHL Boys U16 team

FOUR Cebuanos, including three from Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC), made the cut and will represent the country in the qualifiers for the 2020 Asian Football Confederation U16 championships.

The Philippines is in Group E and will face host Indonesia in Jakarta along with the People’s Republic of China, Brunei Darussalam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

The Cebuanos in the squad are Jaser Amirul, Gianrenzo Andres Custado, Simon Andrei del Campo of DBTC and Eugene Tillor, formerly of Giuseppe but is now home-schooled in Manila.

The squad, led by coach Roxy Dorlas, will take on Northern Mariana islands on Sept. 14, 2019, Indonesia on Sept. 16, China on Sept. 18 and Brunei on Sept. 22.

Ray Calo, one of the coaches of the DBTC football program which is led by Glen Ramos, said he wasn’t surprised the three made it to the national team.

“They have all the qualities, the attitude in practice and the right dedication,” said Calo.

The three were also part of the Central Visayas Football Association team that saw action in the Stars of Tomorrow Boys 15 tournament but missed the must-win match against Negros Oriental Siquijor Football Association.

Meanwhile, DBTC will gun for its first win in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. when it takes on traditional rival Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu on Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. DBTC drew the University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department (USC-BED) in its first game.

USC-BED will face a surging University of San Jose-Recoletos, which routed guest team Sisters of Mary School-Boystown, 8-0, on Sept. 8. in the second game at 3 p.m. On Sept. 15, USC-BED will face SHS-Ateneo, while SMS-Boystown will take on DBTC.

In the college division, USC will face USJ-R at 1 p.m. and the University of the Visayas will face the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation at 3 p.m. (ML)
