8th SunStar Cup kicks off today

SOME 150 teams will try their luck today as the 8th SunStar Football Cup kicks off Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Don Bosco Technical College, which recently won both the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. and Cebu City Olympics title, lead the field with an impressive 31 teams spread in the Players 7, 9 and 11 divisions and the Boys 13, 15, 17 and 19 age groups.

Other teams with multiple entries are Paref Springdale, University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department, Cebu International School and Bright Academy. There are also teams from Bohol, Ormoc and Balamban.

In the first day, the divisions that will be played are Players 7, 9 and 11 and the Girls 15, 17 and 19 and the Boys 17 age groups. The rest of the age groups, plus the men’s professionals will be played on Sunday.

In the Girls 15, emerging powerhouse Sheba FC will face Juan Tikis FC, Balamban FC and Carabell FC, while in the Girls 17 the teams are Sheba FC, St. Theresa’s College, Bright Academy and King Forest Labugon.

The Girls 19 Under has 10 entries divided into two groups with newly crowned Cebu City Olympics futsal champion USC facinging Southcrest, CIS, Balamban and Tagbilaran in Group 2. In Group 1, the teams are STC, Southwestern University, Bright Academy, USOL and Ormoc Soccer Association.

Just like in previous years, the MVP in each division will receive a P1,000 savings account courtesy of SunSavings bank. For this year, each age group champion will also receive five balls. (ML)
