ARQ Boxing’s brightest prospect April Jay Abne remained unbeaten after a third-round win over Royder Lloyd Borbon in the featured fight of ARQ Promotions’ debut event, “Engkwentro Uno,” on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at the Cosonsa Manufacturing Compound in Ibabao, Mandaue City.

The 22-year-old April stopped Borbon in the 36-second mark of the third round with body punches.

April, the winner of the Ultimate Boxing Series flyweight tournament, is now 6-0 with three knockouts, while the hard-hitting Borbon dropped to 6-10-1 six knockouts.

It was a good day for ARQ boxers as four more pugs from the team -- John Paul Gabunillas, Rodex Piala, Ian Abne and Yeroge Gura -- had their hands raised.

Gabunillas survived an opening round knockdown to score a fourth-round technical knockout over Maurino Agum in the other featured bout.

Gabunillas dropped Agum in the second and fourth rounds. The fight was stopped before the start of the fifth round after the ring physician advised the referee that Agum wasn’t fit to continue because of two cuts on his left eyelid.

Gabunillas improved to 4-1 with three knockouts, while Agum suffered his first career defeat and dropped to 2-1 with one knockout.

In the meantime, Piala (1-0) beat Vicente Casido (6-3-1, 2 KOs) by majority decision, Ian (2-0, 2 KOs) knocked out Marvin Campo (0-3) and Gura (1-0) defeated Steve Noblefranca (1-3-1) by unanimous decision.

Two Big Yellow boxers, on the other hand, came out victorious.

Reycar Auxilo (1-1) outclassed Zandro Librador (0-1) by unanimous decision, while Christopher Caburog (2-0) squeaked past Arniel Cañete (0-1) by split decision. (EKA)
