Aguelo stops Borbon in fifth round

JOURNEYMAN Adones Aguelo wowed the crowd with a fifth-round knockout of Jimmy Borbon on Aug. 13, 2019 at the Maasin City Sports Complex in Maasin City.

Aguelo, a native of Maasin City but based in Cebu, dropped Borbon in the waning moments of the fourth round with a body shot.

He finished him off in the following round with a flurry of punches to the body.

The 31-year-old Aguelo, who fights under the guidance of Brix Flores, bounced back from a loss to Ju Wu two months ago and improved to 32-20-2 with 22 knockouts.

Borbon dropped to 7-8-4 with four knockouts.

In the undercard, Boyce Sultan (10-12-1, 5 KOs) ended a six-fight losing slump with a unanimous decision over Rufino Mante (9-21-2, 4 KOs), Cebuano Ryan Maano (4-9-2, 1 KO) posted a rare win with a unanimous decision victory over Edyson Serrano (5-8-1, 4 KOs) and Gerald de Leon (2-0) remained unbeaten with a unanimous decision over newcomer Algem Ampad (0-1).
