THE University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters destroyed the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, 74-51, to capture their second straight win in the high school division of the 2019 Cesafi basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Sunday, September 15, 2019.

UC now shares the lead in the standings with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers, which shocked the Partner’s Cup champions University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars, 71-54, in the first game.

Maczi Micutuan produced a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds to power UC to the win. Luther Leonard — amusingly nicknamed “Kawhi” — also had 13 markers of his own to go with five boards. Isaiah Blanco also played in spite of a sprained ankle and had 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Leonard commented that he and the rest of his teammates were keen on digging deep on defense to shut down USC. After the game, he added that they still can get a whole lot better.

“We still need to work on our defense and our teamwork on the floor,” said Leonard.

In the first game, sharpshooter Christopher Isabelo was at the forefront of USPF’s stunning win over the presumptive juniors title favorites as he tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Ochavo also orchestrated the Baby Panthers’ fierce attack with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals. (SunStar Cebu)
