Bataan pulls away late to down General Santos in MPBL

The 1Bataan-Camaya Coast Risers found their second win just in time to defeat the General Santos Warriors, 74-66, in the 2019-20 Chooks-to-Go/MPBL Lakan Season at the Bataan People's Center on Friday night, January 24, 2020.

With the score tied at 64-all, Cebuano wingman Reed Juntilla sparked an 8-2 run with a lay-up and a perimeter jumper to give Bataan a 72-66 lead with just 38.7 seconds to go.

GenSan's Al Carlos and Robby Celiz missed on consecutive attempts from the three-point line before Achie Iñigo iced the game with a lay-up, with five ticks left on the clock.

Former University of Cebu power forward Alfred Batino led the way for Bataan with a near double-double performance of 20 points and nine rebounds to push the Risers’ standing to 19-9, good for the fourth spot of the North Division.

Byron Villarias provided 13 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists while Iñigo and Martin Gozum chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Camaya Coast-backed squad.

Meanwhile, Christopher Masaglang posted 16 points, four rebounds, and three asissts for GenSan while ex-Southwestern University forward Juju Bautista added 10 markers and four boards in a losing cause.

GenSan slipped to the fourth spot of the South Division with a 16-10 win-loss slate.
