Cebu routs Navotas, still hopeful for playoff bid in MPBL

THE Cebu-Casino Ethyl Alcohol kept their bid for a playoff spot alive with an 83-71 win over the Navotas Uni-Pak Sardines in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Season at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, Rizal on Wednesday night, November 13, 2019.

Promising big man William McAloney came off the bench and had a scintillating performance of 32 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot to help Cebu capture its ninth win in 19 games, good for ninth place in the South Division.

Cebu needed every one of McAloney’s points as they struggled in the early goings and trailed, 14-23, after the first canto before turning things around in the second period where they outscored Navotas 22-15, to trail by just two at halftime, 36-38.

Cebu eventually took over the lead in the third and led, 56-51, after a flurry of baskets from Edrian Lao and McAloney.

The Cebuanos kept on coming in the fourth which they started with a 10-2 run capped off by a three-pointer by McAloney that gave them a 66-53 lead.

Cebu’s frontcourt had a field day against the defense of Navotas as Rhaffy Octobre and Lao each had 12 points, the former adding six rebounds, two assists, four steals and a block while the latter pitched in seven boards, two dimes, a steal and a blocked shot.(SunStar Cebu)
