Edri Aznar

CEBU FC is out to defend its turf and hold on to the top spot of the 2022 Philippines Football League (PFL) as it takes on defending champion United City FC today, Oct. 15 at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex in yet another crucial match.

In both side’s last encounter on Aug. 20, Cebu FC and UCFC settled for a 1-1 draw.

The Gentle Giants are on a hot streak, winning their last five matches that included a win over Kaya FC-Iloilo. Cebu FC handed Kaya FC its second defeat this season, 3-2, last Oct. 9 in its first home match to take the No. 1 spot in the league.

UCFC is coming into this match as a close second and will take over the leadership if it beats Cebu FC.

Following its first match, UCFC won its last four matches that include wins over Kaya FC and Stallion Laguna FC.

The PFL also has two matches scheduled today in two different venues.

Kaya FC looks to bounce back as it plays Mendiola FC 1991 at the City of Imus Grandstand in Imus, Cavite, while Azkals Development Team (ADT) faces Maharlika Manila FC at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

Cebu FC holds the league lead with 20 points, followed by UCFC at second with 19 points. Kaya FC is at a close third with 18 points, followed by Stallion FC at fourth with 15 points. ADT needs some catching up at fifth place with seven points, Mendiola FC is sixth with three points and Maharlika FC is last with no points.
