IT WAS a good day for Cebu teams in the Philippine National Games (PNG) volleyball tournament, when they picked up wins in their openers in the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.

Cebu Province, Cebu City, and Mandaue City picked up convincing victories on the opening day.

Cebu Province, which won the Cebu City Mayor’s Cup recently as part of their preparations for the tournament, outclassed Kidapawan in the Men’s Division, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-12. Cebu City and Mandaue City also swept their matches in the Women’s Division.

Cebu City beat Makati, 25-18, 25-9, 25-16 and Mandaue City defeated Tacloban, 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.

Cebu City was up against Valencia in the Men’s Division.

In other Men’s Division matches, Taguig beat San Carlos City, 25-20, 25-18, 29-27. Iligan walked away with a default win over South Cotabato. Tacloban City edged out Makati in a five-set thriller, 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 26-28, 15-13 and Cagayan de Oro defeated Valencia, 25-22, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20.

It was a different story in beach volleyball as Cebu City lost to Davao City, 2-0, and Cebu Province lost to Makati, 2-1. (RSC)
