CEBUANO Asian Games gold medalist skateboarder Margielyn Didal and three other Cebuanos will receive cash incentives from the Cebu City Government for bringing pride and honor to the city in the just concluded quadrennial meet in Jakarta.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu, Councilor Jerry Guardo said Didal is set to receive a P300,000 financial incentive from the City Government for her achievement.

Didal hails from Barangay Lahug.

A cash reward of P300,000 for gold, P200,000 for silver and P100,000 for bronze will be given to medalists in the Asian Games as provided under City Ordinance No. 2485.

Guardo, who is currently the vice chairman of the committee on sports and youth, sponsored the said ordinance which was approved last year.

Funds for the incentives will be taken out from the City’s share of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) funds.

Guardo said there is a need to grant cash incentives as a form of financial incentives to the Cebuano medalists in order to motivate and inspire these athletes to bring out their best and devote more serious efforts in improving their performance level in the future sports competitions to achieve international medals”.

Aside from Didal, Guardo said Lois Kaye Go, who won the women’s team gold in golf, Kiyomi Watanabe who won a silver in judo and Rinna Babanto, who won a bronze for women’s team poomsae will also receive their respective cash rewards from the City. (RVC)
